15 Most Disappointing Movies Of The 2020s (So Far)

4. The Matrix Resurrections

Thor: Love and Thunder
Warner Bros.

It's really a big shame that The Matrix Resurrections has ended up on this list. After all, it's a legacy sequel that doesn't give a damn about fan service, takes loads of risks and also represents a director making a film exactly how she wanted to make it. Audacious movies driven by a creative vision and not by eagerness to please fans are what Hollywood needs more of these days, after all.

But at the same time, it'd be ridiculous to leave Resurrections out here because, to be blunt, it is not a good movie. Like, at all.

It starts out really well and has loads of great ideas, but it ultimately devolves into a poorly-written, ultra low-stakes and thoroughly unsatisfying slice of tedium that never feels like a complete story or gets viewers emotionally invested in its characters.

There are also various things in this movie that just feel downright insulting. The action is laughably subpar considering the original film revolutionized the genre, Laurence Fishburne's absence is sorely felt, the new Agent Smith is simply awful and the film makes the inexplicable decision to focus on Neo (Keanu Reeves) and Trinity's (Carrie Anne-Moss) love story - which was always one of the worst things in the original trilogy.

Simply put, this movie should not have been made. However bad the ending to the original trilogy was, leaving things as they were would've been preferable to this disappointing 'nothing' of a follow-up.
