15 Most Disappointing Movies Of The 2020s (So Far)

13. The Gray Man

Thor: Love and Thunder
Netflix

You could easily rename The Gray Man 'Generic Action Flick: The Movie' because that's basically what it is. This thing is generic to the point of parody.

And that really isn't what anyone wanted to say about what sounded like such a promising piece. Thanks to its stacked cast and the directors of several of the best MCU movies at the helm, as well as its status as the most expensive Netflix Original ever, interest in the movie was understandably high.

Unfortunately, for all but the least-expectant viewers The Gray Man will be a let-down. Its rote screenplay feels pieced together from many other far superior movies, and the risible CGI, terrible editing and tame PG-13 violence don't help either.

In fairness to the film, it's not a total wash-out. The performances - especially from Chris Evans and Billy Bob Thornton - are strong and some of the action is fun, but it remains a disappointingly average and forgettable work whatever way you cut it.

What's especially frustrating is that, being a Netflix movie, this didn't have to worry about box office returns and could've been a really unique, interesting blockbuster. Instead, it's actually a lot more generic than much of what you see at the multiplex.
