15 Most Disappointing Movies Of The 2020s (So Far)

10. Candyman

Thor: Love and Thunder
Universal Pictures

Candyman was probably 2021's most anticipated horror flick. Not only is it a follow-up to a much-admired cult classic that had many talented people on-board, but it's also a hugely topical work with its themes of racism and police brutality.

In fact, being delayed by a year made it even more relevant in the wake of the George Floyd case, which makes this movie being such a misfire even more dispiriting. Its vital themes deserved a far better work than this.

Despite a cracking cast and strong visuals, Candyman (2021) is a mess that fails both as a horror film and as a piece of thematic exploration. Not only is it an anti-structural, painfully rushed affair with an awful third act, but its social commentary is badly-done at best.

Still, it wasn't quite the most disappointing horror film of 2021...
