15 Most Epic Last Stands In Movie History

14. Tom Hanks Vs. A Tank - Saving Private Ryan

Saving Private Ryan Tom Hanks
Paramount Pictures

At the conclusion of Stephen Spielberg's searing war epic, Captain Miller (Tom Hanks) attempts to explode the Ramelle bridge, but finds himself mortally wounded by gunfire.

He slumps down to the ground as a Tiger tank rolls onto the bridge, and all Miller can do is desperately unload his remaining pistol fire at it, and to his surprise, it miraculously explodes after a few shots.

A moment passes before an American fighter plane passes overhead, having bombed the tank to pieces. Miller may not have survived, but he died a hero's death, and somehow managed to come out of a face-to-face encounter with a tank without being blown to smithereens. Bravo.
