15 Most Exciting Horror Movies Coming In 2020
11. The Turning
Release: 24th January, 2020
For anyone even remotely aware of horror literary history, Henry James' The Turn Of The Screw was a watershed moment and it basically set the path for every haunted house story since. The plot - of a governess employed to look after two children in a country house after the deaths of their parents who discovers everything is haunted - is so familiar now it feels like a cliche, but this is where it all came from.
For the adaptation, cunningly retitled The Turning (which is an awful decision, but it's done now), Mackenzie Davis is the governess, Finn Wolfhard and The Florida Project's Brooklynn Prince her young orphaned charges and Joely Richardson has a mysteriously unnamed role. Presumably as a ghost.
Expect old fashioned chills and while it's out in January, the cast and the fact that producer Steven Spielberg has been trying to get it made for years suggests it might buck that sort of release window's trend.
