15 Most Exciting New Movies Announced In 2019 (So Far)
13. Mission: Impossible 7 & 8
Release: 2021 and 2022
Few movie franchises can claim to get consistently better as they progress into the high-numbered sequels, but Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible movies are an exception to the usual trends. Defying the usual effects of gravity on franchise longevity just as much as Cruise is ignoring the traditional ravages of age, the 6th chapter in the series - Fallout - was truly great.
Thanks to Christopher McQuarrie's incredibly gifted eye for action, it also felt fresh in its choreography and pushed Ethan Hunt into areas he's never been before. Now, thanks to that film's success, McQuarrie faces the unenviable task of doing it again. Twice.
The director announced early in 2019 that he's going to be tackling the seventh and eighth chapters in Hunt's sprawling story, which will be shot back-to-back and will release a year apart starting in 2021. A double-header, rather excitingly, sort of guarantees a big explosive cliff-hanger in the middle, so the story is likely to be particularly compelling.
