15 Most Important Film Sequels Coming In 2017
12. The Fate Of The Furious
We have now reached the eighth instalment in the Fast & Furious series, which in itself is pretty unbelievable. Who would have thought that a rejigged Point Break remake would spawn one of the most successful franchises of all time, take a dip, and then return by making the seamless transition from drag-racing teen fantasy to globe-trotting action magnificence. Goes to show what the power of The Rock can do.
With a spanking new trailer just released, the film looks to be as needlessly absurd as all the others (the Rock & Statham prison break looks like an action fan's wet dream). Amongst the car smashes and tanks Vin Diesel's Dom seems to have betrayed his family, despite talking about how important they are for eight movies. Brainwashing? Evil twin? Whatever the outcome is it actually looks to have mixed things up rather nicely.
One thing we do know is that due to the tragic and untimely death of star Paul Walker his character Brian O'Conner will not be returning. Unless of course they attempt a ghoulish resurrection using CGI (please, no!).
Having always played top billing alongside Vin Diesel, Fate of the Furious will be the first example of the entire ensemble cast without one of their main players. O'Conner started it all so it will be interesting to see how they decide to move forward without him and ultimately whether something will seem lacking.
