The story goes that Dennis Hopper read the script to Blue Velvet and called David Lynch begging for the role of the major antagonist of the film, claiming that he was Frank Booth. Thats thats a little worrying, Dennis. Frank is a bug-eyed, foul-mouthed deviant freak of a man, possibly exhibiting two separate personae when in the throes of a psychotic break: the sadistic, violent Daddy, and the regressive, sexually aggressive Baby. A bizarre, twisted rapist, murderer and drug fiend, Frank is the unquestioned star of the show (Blue Velvet being the kind of film that it is), and has since taken his place in pop culture, his lines and Hoppers manic delivery sampled in song. Endlessly quotable, truly terrifying and traumatising in equal measure, Frank Booth is one of the weirdest of Lynchs weird, weird creations, which is certainly saying something. Dont ever screw with Frank. Hell send you a love letter, straight from his heart. You know what a love letter is?
