15 Most Over-Rated Movies Of The 21st Century

1. Mulholland Drive

Spring Breakers 2012
Universal

Scooping the number one spot as the best film of the 21st century on the BBC’s list and consequently the most over-hyped movie of the new millennium, David Lynch’s feverish, dreamy mind f*ck Mulholland Drive is the director at his most Lynchiest. The default favourite of seemingly most artsy-fartsy film critics, the film offers enough fodder for at least a thousand film theory dissertations and pseudo-intellectual discussions on what the hell it actually means.

While we could talk ‘til the cows come home about non-linear narratives and Lynchian dream logic, Mulholland Drive – quite possibly one of the most over-analysed films of the 21st century too – is essentially the psychosis-induced, nightmarish reverie of Naomi Watts’ sexually frustrated failed actress nonsensically pieced together from an unfinished, rejected Lynch TV pilot.
