15 Most Overrated Horror Films Since 2000

5. Zombieland

Split James McAvoy The Beast

Rotten Tomatoes: 90% (Average Score: 7.39/10)

IMDb: 7.6

Zombieland is beautifully acted, moderately amusing and overall solid, but its status as one of the most acclaimed horror films of the noughties doesn't quite add up. It might be a diverting bit of fun but it doesn't quite reach greatness since the plot is thin, it's funny without ever being hysterical and since a worldwide zombie apocalypse is not in any way funny, the film's premise is very off-putting.

Zombieland isn't bad at all, it just isn't necessarily that memorable aside from the amazing Bill Murray cameo and when you compare it the actual best horror comedies of recent times - Shaun of the Dead, The Cabin in the Woods and the painfully underrated Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil - there isn't much of a comparison. The belated sequel (with the same cast and crew) wasn't particularly good, which further makes one wonder what all the fuss was about.
