15 Most Overrated Horror Films Since 2000

1. Paranormal Activity

IMDb: 6.3

Paranormal Activity is the most overrated horror film of the 21st century by quite some distance; luckily, this won't be a hugely controversial pick for number one since no-one seems to like Paranormal Activity very much anymore (the low IMDb rating as well as the low audience scores on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic say it all) and why would they?

Since it relies on doors slamming, the female lead standing still for several hours and things going bump in the night in the most predictable, boring way possible, the scare count of Paranormal Activity is understandably lower than the average Disney movie.

Add in the paper-thin story, flat script, gimmicky filming style and possibly the most annoying, insufferable camera-person in the history of found-footage horror and you've got the most over-hyped, inexplicably acclaimed horror film not just of the 21st century, but arguably of all time.

So, as it should go without saying, the critical acclaim is absolutely bewildering. Still, film critics are to be envied since at least this actually lived up to the hype for them and wasn't quite such a bitterly disappointing viewing.
