10. The Opening - L'Amant Double

It takes a lot for any movie to really shock a Cannes audience, given the way the festival seems to consciously pride itself on provocation and controversy, but L'Amant Double went the extra mile this way.

In an uncomfortably anatomical remake of the most famous scene in Look Who's Talking, the very opening scene sees the audience confronted by an extreme (and partly internal) view of Marine Vacth's vagina, as she's examined using a medical speculum.

Apparently, the scene elicited laughter when it screened (especially as the close-up segues artistically into a close-up of the actor's eye), but it's still one of the most stunning shots ever shown in cinema.
