Disney's latest effort to redo some of its most celebrated animated classics has enraged and entertained fans. Some don't want to see their favorite films redone in live-action, while others are happy for a new interpretation of an immortal classic. While you can't please everyone, the movies are making a lot of money.
The remake of The Lion King was a bit different than other remakes, as it employs both animation and live-action. On the animation side, there has never been anything quite like it. The animals look so real, it's hard to tell them apart from living creatures... up to the moment they speak.
Regardless, the animation was spectacular, and while the remake was divisive among fans, enough people loved it if the worldwide box office gross is any indication. The movie was expensive... very expensive, and that has a lot to do with the complicated animation used to create it, making it one of the most expensive movies ever made with a cost of around $265 million.
Fortunately, the expense was worth it because The Lion King raked in an impressive $1.657 billion at the worldwide box office. After all the various costs are considered, Disney ended up with an estimated profit of around $580 million.
