Megan is Missing is a nasty, ugly movie. Existing entirely to push buttons, the gratuitous kidnapping story that eventually plays out towards the end of this flick leaves a pretty sour taste in your mouth, but it's undeniably effective at being shocking.

About - if you hadn't guessed from the title already - a missing teenager called Megan who meets up with someone online and then disappears without a trace, the film descends into total depravity as her best friend Amy attempts to find her, eventually succumbing to the same gruesome fate.

Full of sexual abuse, and one scene where a character is forced to eat dog food and then violently assaulted, a handful of moments could have easily made this list, but it's the eventual fate of the two girls that leaves the most haunting lasting impression.

After being told she can leave if she's escorted out in a barrel so she can't lead anyone back to her kidnapper, Amy opens it to find the rotting corpse of her friend decomposing inside, as she's forced into the confined space alongside the body and then buried alive to die staring at the lifeless face of her once best friend.
