15 Most Shocking Moments In Found Footage Movies

3. Real Animal Killing/The Massacre - Cannibal Holocaust

The first ever film to make use of found-footage filming techniques, the 1980 exploitation flick Cannibal Holocaust became notorious for being one of the most violent movies of its time. Following a group of documentarians out to make a film about an off-the-books tribe, the group (who are, admittedly, right dicks) end up being brutally killed and eaten alive by the same people they're documenting.

The gory final scene in question still holds up today, and the feeling of being overwhelmed by tens of people all baying for your blood makes your skin crawl more than any zombie movie that's attempted to capture the same overbearing claustrophobia.

The massacre caused a huge amount of controversy at the time, however it's another moment that doesn't feature anyone's face being eaten off that's even more shocking today. Proving that the group probably deserved to be killed, at one point the characters kill a turtle - which the actors actually performed in real life - decapitating it and removing its limbs, shell, and even its entrails.

There are other moments of real animal cruelty, but this extended sequence is easily the most difficult to sit through.
