Ryan Reynolds was always poised for A-list stardom, but he could never seal the deal. Just as it appeared he’d made it, he’d make a costly flop like Green Lantern or R.I.P.D and have to start again. 2016 finally changed that thanks to Deadpool, so you’d expect his next movie to make use of his leading man status.

Not so much, since he’s essentially a plot device in Criminal. He’s the lead for a mere ten minutes, getting involved in some action before being captured by the bad guys. He’s then tortured to death with an electric prod, which the villain inserts into his mouth for added nastiness.

It’s a memorably vicious demise and sets up the plot for the rest of the film, where his memories are then grafted onto a sociopath, and all manner of implausible events happen.
