15 Most Underrated Movies Of 2016
7. Blood Father
After spending just two weeks in theatres and barely making a dent in its estimated $15 million production budget, Mel Gibson’s new action thriller Blood Father about a hard-edged ex-con who will stop at nothing to protect his daughter slunk off into iTunes obscurity. Despite some rave reviews, it seemed moviegoers en masse had no interest in the film and given Gibson’s racist, drunken ramblings are still fresh in many a memory it’s not hard to see why.
It’s difficult to separate the actor from his public persona and notorious rants, but judging him only by his contributions to Blood Father we’d have to admit it’s his best performance in years. Not to mention the film is bolstered by Robert Gantz’s stunning cinematography, an intense script with flashes of dark humour and a great supporting cast that includes William H. Macy and Michael Parks. It’s proof, however reluctant it is to admit, that despite his obvious problems Gibson can be a very talented actor with the right movie.
