15 Most Underrated Movies Of The 90s

7. Ronin - Ewan

The nineties wasn’t exactly short on action dramas and thrillers, and though Robert DeNiro’s most iconic film from that decade is oft considered Heat, it is Ronin - directed by the formidable John Frankenheimer - that is is perhaps his best.

Given a contemporary setting and a cast comprised of former Cold Warriors, Ronin comes complete with plenty of action, suspense and mystery. It also features just about the best car chase in modern cinema, featuring a Mercedes and a BMW speeding through the streets of Paris, that must be seen to be believed.

If there was one word to describe Ronin, it would be authentic. Practical effects were the name of the game and production was advised by a former member of the SAS. Throw in a couple of commendable performances from DeNiro, Jean Reno and Natascha McElhone, and Ronin more than deserves to be called one of the nineties’ most underrated gems.
