15 Most Underrated Sci-Fi Movies Of All Time
6. Children Of Men
Clive Owen's finest role in a pretty stellar career, Children of Men rarely gets the kudos it so richly deserves. The premise alone is one of the most gripping in cinema as Clive Owen's Theo Faron is enlisted to help escort a miraculously pregnant woman to sanctuary in a dystopian future where all women have somehow become infertile.
Alfonso Cuaron's film is beautifully dark and atmospheric throughout and absolutely rampant with tension. The stakes feel real and human in a way that so few science fiction films achieve with such success. The world as well feels genuine in a way that science fiction often lacks and, as such, we connect with the characters and the tension ramps up drastically in turn.
A human story within a science fiction film, Children of Men is an original and emotive film that bases itself in reality and addresses real issues in the world. With so much going for it throughout, it is a wonder Cuaron's film is not discussed more often when the subject of greatest sci-fi films comes up.
