15 Most Underrated Sci-Fi Movies Of All Time
5. Equilibrium
Conceptually, Equilibrium is a film that puts its strong foot forward from the off. In an attempt to prevent the world from being further ravaged by war and violence, society as a whole decides to ban emotion. Intriguing no? Backed up with a stellar cast anchored by the ever impressive Christian Bale and a fantastic cameo from Sean Bean (Yes, it ends exactly how you think) the film has all the ingredients to stand out as a classic of the sci-fi genre.
However, for some reason it just never really found its audience. A real shame because it really is a great film- the acting is fantastic, the action is frantic and impressive and the high concept is executed with skill and just the right level of hamming it up. Perhaps the film suffered from the emergence of the Matrix around the same period, and at times needlessly tries to imitate that feel, but it really is a great film with a truly interesting concept behind it. Poor oul' Christian deserves to feel the love.
