15 Most Underrated Sci-Fi Movies Of All Time
3. Snowpiercer
An earlier effort from now multiple Oscar winner Bong Joon Ho, Snowpiercer is a genuinely brilliant sci-fi marvel that perhaps deserves as much attention as his now widely lauded Parasite.
Starring Chris Evans as a man who finds himself in the midst of a futuristic class struggle aboard a constantly moving train that is attempting to protect mankind, Snowpiercer is a visual striking and massively original action driven sci-fi film that displays a director clearly at the top of his field. The action sequences throughout are some of the best in modern cinema and shot in a more strikingly original way than many lesser efforts.
The film's release was hurt by attempts to edit it to give it a more mainstream appeal and by a limited release when it was finally allowed out. A real shame as it means the film never got the audience it deserved. And it did deserve it because it is a film littered with brilliant actors giving equally brilliant performances throughout.
With so much talent locked into this intentionally small space it would be so easy for some of the performances to get lost, but they don't and that is credit to not only the actors but Bong Joon Ho as well. Well-crafted, fantastically acted and an intense thrill ride throughout- Snowpiercer deserves to be chugging along in the consciousness of more sci-fi fans.
