15 Most Underrated Sci-Fi Movies Of All Time
4. The Fountain
The Fountain was something of a passion project for director Darren Aronofsky and that passion is visible throughout this visual stunning and incredibly moving film. It is Aronofsky's only real foray into science fiction in his stellar career and is a testament to his ability to tell a great story irrespective of genre.
The Fountain, as is the case with most Aronofsky films, focuses on the theme of obsession, most notably Jackman's character's obsession with mortality and with saving his cancer-stricken wife. It is a deeply moving film that has some of the most interesting visuals you're likely to see in any genre, and the visuals hold up even today.
Awash with striking symbolism and anchored by two brilliant performances from its leads, The Fountain has never garnered the attention it deserves as one of the truly great pieces of modern science fiction. There is very little out there comparable and though that may turn many off giving it a chance, it is a film brimming with so much originality and emotion that it should not be written off so easily.
