15 Most Underrated Sci-Fi Movies Of All Time

2. Event Horizon

Equilibrium Movie
Paramount

Directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, a man with a well earned reputation for- let's say- lower quality cinema fare, Event Horizon is a much higher quality piece of his CV that often suffers from that reputation.

A dark, atmospheric space horror that is genuinely scary, Event Horizon is perhaps one of the few great sci-fi/horror crossovers that did not suffer in the shadow of the Alien franchise that has for so long been king of that particular niche. The film follows a crew that investigates a ship that has disappeared into a black hole and the fallout from that particular investigation. The mystery surrounding the story adds to the tension and the film is extremely well paced throughout.

There is a deep sense of unease in the film that ramps the tension throughout. Add to that some of the finest actors working today in people like Laurence Fishbourne, Sam Neill and Jason Isaacs and you have a film that honestly does very little wrong and a whole lot right. An underappreciated gem that people seemed too be scared of for all the wrong reasons.
