15 Most Underrated Sci-Fi Movies Of All Time

1. Sunshine

Equilibrium Movie
Fox Searchlight

The oft considered quintessential under-rated sci-fi movie, Sunshine is a baffling anomaly of under watched brilliance. Penned masterfully by modern sci-fi maestro, Alex Garland, directed by long time collaborator Danny Boyle and wall to wall with brilliant actors and performances- Sunshine just never garnered the attention it so richly deserved.

And that is truly unfortunate for those who missed it because Sunshine is a well-paced, brilliantly written and extremely clever film that does so many things right. It's a film that does not underestimate its audience and doesn't spell out every moment, but allows hooked onlookers to figure things out themselves and revel in the tension that unfolds before them.

A giant ticking clock hangs over the whole film ramping up the tension to no end and every actor is on song throughout. The whole film culminates in one of the great science fiction showdowns in modern cinema. It's easy to understand the frustrated cries from those who consider this an under-rated masterpiece- much more difficult to understand how more people haven't taken the time to find out why.
