15 Most Underrated Spy Movies Of All Time
5. Hopscotch
Directed by The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie helmer Ronald Neame, 1980's underrated Hopscotch is a more comic look at the world of espionage than most of the films listed here.
A light-hearted picaresque adventure, the film follows infamous screen curmudgeon Walter Matthau as a beleaguered former employee of the CIA who opts to release a set of incendiary memoirs. As said autobiography will expose the incompetence and corruption of his former boss, the company do everything in their power to halt its publication...
And it turns out everything in their power is a hilarious globe-trotting chase which sees the likeable Matthau always managing to outsmart his former co-workers. A genuine delight, this flick plays out like the missing link between the Inspector Clouseau series and 1982's John Landis comedy Spies Like Us, and is a perfect light antidote to this list's heavier entries.
