15 Most Unexpectedly Depressing Movies Of All-Time

8. Pay It Forward (2000)

If you've seen Pay It Forward, then the words "Pay It Forward" should make you feel terrible as soon as you read them. This is one of those films that leaves permanent scars, because why did they have to do that? Why did they have to do such horrible things to that poor kid? He was so idealistic! He had dreams! Ambitions! He was the best person ever! Ahem: we're getting ahead of ourselves. Pay It Forward, then, features a young and adorable Hayley Joel Osment as Trevor McKinney, a cute and brilliant kid who comes up with the good-will movement of the title - you know, you do a favour for somebody, so they do a favour for somebody else, and so on. It's a nice, watchable drama movie - for the most part. But couldn't they have left it at that? It is Hollywood, so no, they couldn't. What happens? Well, towards the end of the film, Trevor is accidentally stabbed and killed during a fight. At the time of watching, this feels like one of the most emotionally-distressing scenes you've ever seen. As a result, you will never, ever want to watch this movie again.
