3. The Fountain (2006)
I. Am. In. Love. With. This. Movie. Let's ignore the fact that 'The Fountain' is densely layered with plot. Let's ignore the fact that said plot is incomprehensible. Let's ignore the fact that if you somehow understand what's going on, everyone you talk to will have a different opinion about what's happening. Let's ignore all of that. What shall we focus on instead? How absurdly gorgeous it is! Look at it!
Look at it! Have you ever seen a movie before with such brilliance in its visuals? Whether the movie is taking place in space, on Earth in modern day, or in Central America during the Inquisition, it never fails to deliver stunning and awe-inspiring visuals. Let's take a look at these, shall we?
16th century20052500 Okay, I'll wrap this up soon, I promise. But first, allow me to tell you about how they did the visuals. Basically,
no CGI. The effects budget was slashed before production began, which meant they had to come up with original ways to do the visual effects (okay, there was a
little CGI, but still impressive). For instance, much of what you see in space is footage underwater, transposed and color corrected to look like the infinity of deep space.
