10. Days of Heaven (1978)
While not being effects-laden like the previous entry, Terrance Malick's second film is just as visually stunning, using the natural landscape to best effect. Even the plot of the film reflects around the inherent beauty in nature. When a horde of locusts come upon the fields, the townspeople strike at them, even to the point of burning some of the fields. And yet, one of the farmers takes a few moments to gaze at one of the locust, rather than lash out at it, simply to admire it. And then of course, there's the scene where the locust finally fly away. It has become famous as being one of the most oddly beautiful moments ever filmed.
I know it's difficult to picture a movie as being visually striking when the reasoning given is basically "there's a whole lot of fields and bugs and stuff", so instead of just taking my word for it, here's the trailer. It's got a small handful of the awesome cinematography on display.
