5. Climax

Gaspar Noé's (Irreversible, Enter the Void) latest offering is yet another wilfully f***ed up acid trip of a movie, adapted from a supposedly true story in which a dance troupe's sangria bowl is spiked with LSD, prompting the dancers to violently turn on one another.

If Noé has a reputation for trying too hard to shock audiences, Climax actually feels a little more focused than your usual Noé joint, with a greater attention to character development and slowly building up to the hallucinogenic second half.

This is a movie that absolutely begs to be seen on the biggest screen possible: the music is banging, the long-take visuals majestic and the live-wire dance sequences incredible.

That's to say nothing of the parade of human depravity that takes place once the drugs kick in, and without spoiling things, it gets pretty damn unpleasant. If you're a fan of Noé's, the singular, wildly energetic Climax can't be missed.
