15 Movie Poster Trends That Really Need To Die

14. Comedies Leads Stare Straight Ahead With Dumb Expressions

So many movie posters have this; Paul Blart Mall Cop, We're The Millers, Get Him To The Greek, Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates.

You could write volumes on this trend.

We get it though! You want to tell us a movie is a comedy, and that wacky hi-jinks are going to ensue? What better way than to have Seth Rogan or Kevin Hart stare wide-eyed and/or open-mouthed directly at the camera with an expression like they just took a dump with their trousers still on?

But there's something cringing about it too. Of all the expressions one could make to promote a comedy, the raised eyebrow and slanted jaw is one that must make these poor actors wince every time they see it.

It makes people wince too. Sure, it probably wouldn't impede your decision to see a movie. But suddenly there is a joke lost on you somehow. It's a like a clown laughing at their own humour, and the irony is lost.

It's difficult to suggest an alternative, especially since you want to keep the poster light and fun. But they should be more creative than an exhausted comic actor looking us square in the eye, silently screaming for help.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
