15 Movie Poster Trends That Really Need To Die
11. Back To Back In Romantic Comedies
For a movie poster, this trend is bordering on cliche, and it's so sugar coated and sickly it can quite literally upset the stomach.
What's bad about it? Nothing inherently, other than the back-to-back has been used so often now it's lost its spark and become an unoriginal platform. Now, this can be used to illustrate the differences in the two romantic leads;
"He's into sports, drinking, being a slob and a bit of womanizer! She's high-strung and career focused with no time for a man in her life! What crazy dates are they going to go on?"
Okay, we get it! We don't need the two leads leaning on each other like drunks in a Weatherpersons. Recent films The Lovebirds, Crazy Rich Asians and Can You Keep A Secret? have done this very well with their own visuals of what the dynamics of the rom-com leads could be.
If a movie tells us that they are going to a romantic comedy, it doesn't need the leads making a human Eiffel Tower whilst staring down a camera lens. End this trope now!
Or give it to another genre, it would be kind of funny if Hobbs & Shaw's movie poster was that.
