15 Movie Poster Trends That Really Need To Die
9. Heroes Pointing Weapons At Us
Establishing a movie hero is a badass from just the poster usually comes with a hard grimace and an explosion behind them. Often, this will also include the hero solemnly clutching a firearm to symbolize that some form of gunplay will take place across the course of the film.
As nit picky as it may be, you have to admit that there is something egregious about a movie poster where the hero is pointing the barrel of their gun directly down the camera lens; regardless of what your thoughts may be on guns.
Some exceptions are made, though; James Bond posing with his signature Walther PPK seems to have become a grandfathered tradition, and changing that marketing strategy now would cause more fandom outrage than suggested James Bond doesn't have to be a white man.
The trend of heroes pointing their guns at anyone looking at the poster seems to weirdly be a recurring trend in bad films (except Sicario, that film is a masterpiece. FACT). But films like R.I.P.D, Lockout, 21 Bridges and even the new Robin Hood film, seem to have not mastered the ability to have their weapons facing down and walk towards us.
One day they might.
