15 Movie Poster Trends That Really Need To Die

8. Really Up Close Pictures Of The Lead's Face

Wow, that's a big face!

Across multiple genres of film, we've seen images similar to the one for The Martian; The Social Network, The Imitation Game, The King's Speech- even the first Thor movie did this!

I can't decide whether it's shamefully unoriginal or wildly intense, but to get your lead actors to grimace down a camera lens and splatter it across the full frame of a picture has to be one of the dullest attributes a movie marketing team could do these days.

It's not a question of whether or not it's embarrassing, but more an argument that there are far more interesting things happening in the movie that marketers could capitalize on. We're not asking for the films to be spoiled, but if a movie is riding off the coattails that just Benedict Cumberbatch's or Matt Damon's gorgeous faces are enough to sell a movie, chances are not much is happening in those movies.

And if nothing else; direct-to-camera big face pictures have that weird trick where the eyes follow you round the room. So when you pass them in the cinema lobby, it almost feels like Jesse Eisenberg is judging you for not seeing his movie.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
