The Emoji Movie may have been a creatively bankrupt, Razzie-nominated trainwreck of an animated film, but it still made $217 million against its $50 million budget, and was no doubt an easy seller on home video markets.

Even with the film's infamy - or perhaps because of it - it's hard to imagine Sony not green-lighting a sequel this year, because it's not like emojis as a concept are going away any time soon, and there's little chance a sequel would bomb with the kiddie market.

Plus, The Emoji Movie 2 could maybe learn a few lessons from what went wrong the first time, and in the very least not be quite as terrible as the original. A 2-star film would be a miracle, honestly.
