The Original: Daniel Espinosa's (Easy Money) English-language debut was an entertaining if uneven thriller which benefited from well-matched leads in Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds, even if the frantically-filmed action let it down somewhat. Reviews were mixed, but it made $208 million against an $85 million budget. The Sequel: In 2012, the sequel was announced, with David Guggenheim coming back to write the film, though from what Reynolds has said in interviews, it sounds like the script isn't quite there yet. Will It Be Any Good?: Washington is notoriously averse to sequels (either this or The Equalizer 2 will be the first of his career), so if he's game, then it certainly suggests there's a good idea in there somewhere. Even so, Washington isn't confirmed to star yet, so it's possible that a sequel could just go in another direction. Time will tell.
