15 Movie Trailers You Won't Believe Were Allowed To Exist

8. Jim Gordon's "Death" Gets Ruined - The Dark Knight

As mostly-fantastic as the first trailer for The Dark Knight was, it made one gigantic, unforgivable mistake: it completely ruined one of the movie's big twists.

Mid-way through the film, Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) is "killed", only to resurface in a surprise "gotcha!" moment later on as he helps capture The Joker (Heath Ledger). However, this trailer features several prominent sequences post-Gordon's death, where he's very clearly alive, talking about The Joker and then smashing up the Bat signal.

Considering how obsessively people watch the trailers for superhero movies in particular, these images of Gordon were certainly kept in mind while watching the film for the first time.

It was an extremely frustrating move to ruin the twist right out of the gate, and given how meticulous Christopher Nolan is as a filmmaker, it's surprising he didn't tell Warner Bros. to remove this section of the trailer.
