15 Movies That Made 2016 The Dumbest Year Ever

4. Blair Witch

Batman V Superman MARTHA
Lionsgate

Giving the Blair Witch franchise a belated sequel directly related to the original 1999 hit movie actually wasn't a bad idea at all, especially accompanied by a clever marketing campaign which initially mounted the film as a standalone horror flick called The Woods.

Then the film came out. Blair Witch sadly only uses the sequel hook as window dressing to essentially remake the original movie with new characters and superior technology. The spine of the film is basically identical, making this another in a disturbingly common line of remakes and reboots not-so-subtly disguising themselves as sequels.

In the process, Lionsgate basically threw away the potential to reinvigorate the series, with an underwhelming (if still profitable) box office performance. So, so stupid.
