15 Movies That Made 2016 The Dumbest Year Ever

2. Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice

Batman V Superman had basically every advantage a blockbuster film could need: an awesome high concept, a superb marketing campaign and a killer cast.

Then the film came out, and even its defenders will most likely agree it was a disappointment. With a slippery hold on its own narrative logic and character motivations, while featuring a mere 7 minutes of the titular heroes duking it out, Batman v Superman was an absolute mess, one that the Ultimate Edition could only rectify to a point.

This had a slam dunk written all over it, and though people love to blame Zack Snyder, it's really the script that sinks this one.

On a technical level, it's a gorgeous film, and Ben Affleck was fantastic as Batman, but after the mixed response to Man of Steel, this and the subsequent critical failure of Suicide Squad just cemented the DCEU as something of a running joke that's in desperate need of course-correction.
