15 Movies That Made 2016 The Dumbest Year Ever

10. The Divergent Series: Allegiant

The penultimate entry into the divisive Divergent movie franchise tackles the first half of the final novel and is easily the most egregiously unnecessary book-split since Peter Jackson turned The Hobbit into three movies.

Despite a fantastic cast (including Jeff Daniels as the new villain), Allegiant is by far the worst of the three movies to date, with ropey visual effects, terrible dialogue and not-fussed performances ensuring audiences didn't much care about any of it.

The film was so bad that it ended up a major financial disappointment and basically killed the movie franchise overnight, with the final film, Ascendant, apparently being considered as a TV movie without any of the cast returning. Translation: it's been not-so-quietly cancelled and will probably get rebooted as a TV series in a few years.
