15 Movies That Made 2017 The Dumbest Year Ever

14. Transformers: The Last Knight

On one hand, the fifth Transformers movie is unarguably one of the stupidest blockbusters ever committed to celluloid, but it's also a film so enthusiastically inane that it's hard not to laugh your way through every brain cell-annihilating moment.

At least with a younger female protagonist there's less overt sexism this time, but The Last Knight is still bloated out with an unnecessary focus on dull human characters, eye-rolling product placement, lame comic relief and action sequences more exhausting than entertaining.

There are so many staggeringly, sometimes wonderfully dumb things in this film: Stanley Tucci is randomly recast as an alcoholic Merlin, it's implied Bumblebee assassinated Hitler, Anthony Hopkins has a surprisingly prominent role alongside a robot butler that knows kung fu, and Mark Wahlberg gets to use Excalibur to fight Decepticons.

You certainly get plenty of bang for your buck, and it's weird enough to border on experimental at times, but at its core it still feels like a child wrote it. Go figure.
