The Remake: A supernatural romantic drama about an architect in 2004 (Keanu Reeves) and a doctor in 2006 (Sandra Bullock), who reside in the same lake house at different times yet are able to use the mail box to send correspondence to one another. This was the first time Reeves and Bullock had co-starred since the 1994 action classic Speed, but that didn't stop critics lining up to pummel it for the nonsensical approach to its admittedly rather intriguing premise. The Original: The remake is based on the 2000 South Korean movie Il Mare, which is essentially a more subtle, art-house version of the same story, not quite spelling all the time travel beats out as eagerly to the audience. Whether this is a good thing or not is up to the viewer, considering that the original movie doesn't make a lot more sense than the remake, and with a plot this weird, perhaps there are worse things than just spoon-feeding the viewer everything they need to know. Which One Is Better?: It's a tough one, but the original just about edges it. It may have lower production values, but the acting is better and it originated the concept, no matter how ridiculous it nevertheless is.
