15 Movies You Won’t Believe Are 20 Years Old
8. Spice World
If anything sums up the cultural zeitgeist of 1997 – and we’re using the word ‘cultural’ loosely – it’s Spice World.
Starring the most popular manufactured girl group of the late 90s, the Spice Girls, as themselves the musical comedy follows the fivesome on a madcap adventure across London in the lead up to a big concert at the Royal Albert Hall with supporting roles and cameos from the likes of Richard E. Grant and Stephen Fry who, according to IMDB, only did it because the kids in their families were fans.
Was it any good? Put bluntly, no. Better singers than they are actors (which isn’t saying much really), the Spice Girls couldn’t even convincingly play themselves and collectively took the Worst Actress Razzie at the Golden Raspberry Awards the following year.
On the other hand, it was also listed amongst The 100 Most Enjoyably Bad Movies Ever Made by Golden Raspberry co-founder John Wilson so it’s got that going for it at least.
