What Everyone Says About It: "Watch the first two, then pretend this one doesn't exist. Aside from the fact that Francis Ford Coppola let nepotism get the better of him by casting his own daughter in the role of Mary Corleone and she was absolutely terrible, Part III gets too silly in several sequences (the helicopter attack, anyone?) and brings the saga to a wildly disappointing close." Why It Isn't Terrible: For one, The Godfather Part III was nominated for seven Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director, and while a far cry from the classic original movies, has stood the test of time just fine if you're willing to give it a chance. It's not a game-changer in the same way as the first two, but Al Pacino and Andy Garcia's performances are electric, and while Sofia Coppola's casting is totally indefensible, she doesn't sink the film as easily as its detractors claim. It still brings Michael Corleone's story to a close in devastating fashion, no matter that it's not as refined or water-tight as what came before.
