15 Near Miss Villain Castings That Would Suck More Than Eisenberg's Luthor

5. Adam Driver - Lex Luthor (Batman vs. Superman)

Adam Driver is quickly becoming one of the actors of the moment: he's easily the best thing about Lena Dunham's show Girls, and he's starred in a number of prestige pics over the last 18 months, including Steven Spielberg's Lincoln and the Coen Brothers' Inside Llewyn Davis. Furthermore, he's landed a leading part in Martin Scorsese's upcoming film, Silence. However, it was a huge surprise to hear that he was one of the shortlisted candidates for the part of Lex Luthor in Batman vs. Superman, which of course went so controversially to Jesse Eisenberg in the end. Driver is a hugely talented actor, but it's difficult to see what Zack Snyder and co. saw in the actor as being fit for Luthor. Perhaps I'm just unable to disconnect from his Adam character in Girls, but I just cannot see him playing a black-and-white villain of Luthor's type, though when he was up against far better-known actors like Eisenberg and Joaquin Phoenix, it's not all that surprising that he didn't land the role.
