15 Original Upcoming Movies Which Might Save Hollywood
13. Kitchen Sink
Release Date: September 4 (US) / November 6 (UK) What It's About: Humans, vampires and zombies live a strangely idyllic existence in harmony, at least until mysterious extra-terrestrial beings arrive on Earth and upset that balance. All-out warfare ensues as humans, vampires and zombies take each other on in possibly the most epic and grotesque Battle Royale of all time. With time running out, three teens, a high-school vampire, a human and a zombie, must team up to avert all-out disaster. Why It Can Save Hollywood: Kitchen Sink's script has caused quite the stir in Hollywood over the years, landing on the prestigious 2010 Hollywood Black List of best un-produced screenplays, and for a time Jonah Hill was even locked in to helm it as his directorial debut. Columbia Pictures eventually settled on Robbie Pickering (Natural Selection), while the cast includes Vanessa Hudgens, Ed Westwick, Denis Leary, Bob Odenkirk, Patton Oswalt, and Joan Cusack, so it won't want for star power despite its deliciously off-the-wall premise. As the title rather amusingly asserts, this film has everything but the kitchen sink, and will hopefully signal that there's still plenty of life left in the long-stagnating zombie and vampire genres. Plus, if it gives Hudgens another chance to prove she's got what it takes to carry a movie, then that's no bad thing.
