15 Original Upcoming Movies Which Might Save Hollywood

12. Trainwreck

Release Date: July 17 (US) / August 28 (UK) What It's About: After having grown up raised on the notion that monogamy isn't natural or really possible, commitment-averse Amy (Amy Schumer) has to re-evaluate her outlook on life when a charming doctor, Aaron (Bill Hader), comes into the picture. Why It Can Save Hollywood: Great comedies starring women aren't exactly in tremendous abundance, and Judd Apatow's latest directorial effort looks like something very special indeed. This is the first time the Knocked Up director hasn't written a film he's directed, instead throwing Schumer the ball to write a star vehicle for herself. An in-progress cut of the movie screened at SXSW back in March, and the reviews were universally positive, citing Schumer's performance, and as is usual for Apatow's movies, a strong measure of dramatic heft alongside the usual crude comic routine. Put your money on it now: this is likely to be one of the year's funniest films, and a sure star-maker for Schumer. Plus, there's cameos from the likes of John Cena, Kobe Bryant and Daniel Radcliffe, among countless others that likely haven't been spoiled just yet.
