15 PERFECT Scenes In Otherwise Disappointing Movies
9. Yesterday: John Lennon
Yesterday had a great premise and both director Danny Boyle and writer Richard Curtis are very reliable, but unfortunately Yesterday was a disappointingly mediocre effort that, despite strong performances and some sweet moments, was let down by its predictable plot, lack of laughs and poor pacing.
Still, it's not all bad news, for Yesterday does have the year's Greatest cameo and since this is also the year of That cameo during Spider-Man: Far from Home's mid-credits scene, that's saying something.
In Yesterday, an excellent Robert Carlyle shows up as John freaking Lennon! Since, in Yesterday, The Beatles never existed, John Lennon has survived into old age and the film's protagonist, Jack, meets him towards the film's end.
Lennon turns out to have had a very happy life out of the spotlight with his wife and advises Jack to pursue his love interest and reminds him that you only need happiness, not fame, to have a successful life.
This scene could've been corny, but it's actually a beautifully-written scene that is incredibly touching and poignant and seeing John Lennon not only alive, but actually far happier than the real John Lennon was, will probably leave many viewers very misty-eyed.
