15 Planned Horror Film Remakes That Thankfully Never Happened
14. The Gate
Proving that literally any horror film from the 1980s could be remade, in September 2009 Alex Winter (Bill from Bill and Ted a music video director) expressed his intention to remake The Gate, a kiddy horror about a group of youths that unearth a bunch of small stop-motions demons from their backyard. And it was going to be in 3D, of course. Because if you're going to remake a horror film, it just has to be in 3D. Nobody wants to see those boring old 2D films anymore. Or black and white. Or practical effects. Of course not. To their credit, the makers did want to stay true to the original and special effects wiz H.R Giger was slated to design the monsters. Shooting was scheduled to start in Germany in 2010 but nothing happened. Interest in the project waned as Winter set about making a documentary about Napster. Nothing has been reported on the remake in years and it appears as though there is little interest. Giger's death in 2014 also complicates matters, should the film get to the production stages.
