15 Planned Horror Film Remakes That Thankfully Never Happened

13. Motel Hell

Motel Hell is a wonderfully eccentric horror comedy about a farmer who kidnaps his victims and buries them in his garden. It pretty much came and went ($6m on a $3m budget) in 1980 but has since found an audience on video and more recently DVD and blu-ray. The film was going to be remade by MGM (who own the rights to the original) in 2007 but then that was pushed back to 2008, with a Halloween weekend release date planned. The rights to the film traded hands between MGM and Twisted Sister and then back to MGM again when Twisted Sister couldn't come up with a script they liked. Indie director Steven C. Miller was slated to direct in 2009. Reports suggested that the film was going to keep much of the irony and quirkiness of the original and not be a straight horror film per say. There have been no new reports since July 2010 and it seems the project is not in Motel but rather development hell.
