15 Planned Horror Film Remakes That Thankfully Never Happened

10. Chopping Mall

This Roger Corman produced 1986 (somewhat) hidden gem about a group of high school kids partying in a mall after hours and being hunted by security robots is a lot of fun. It's not a great film, by any stretch of the imagination, but it's the kind of off-the-wall horrror movie that could only exist in the mid-1980s. So why bother making it in the 2010s? It was reported in late 2011 that the film was getting lined up for a remake with Robert Hall poised to produce and direct. He told DailyDead.com in January 2013 that the movie was going ahead, saying:
Chopping Mall is still on the slate. We're working with Roger on that and we have it in development. My writing partner, Kevin Bocarde, is doing the heavy lifting right now. He has a script that I'm supposed to start my pass on pretty soon. We have a pretty solid plan for getting it out and it might even start rolling sometime late summer.
Apparently the film was going to have a darker supernatural spin to it than the original, meaning it wouldn't be a straight remake. As of this writing, however, there is nothing new to report on and the remake seems dead in the water. Just as well, really: does the world really need a straight-to-VOD remake of a long-forgotten 80s B movie?
